Language Learning Journey

Giving your children the opportunity to study in a multilingual environment is a significant advantage for their future

At the Alliance Française in Santiago, speaking multiple languages comes naturally. Learning one or more languages is easier when started at a young age and helps develop an open mind. Being bilingual or trilingual stimulates brain function and gives children greater ability to concentrate, reason, and solve problems.

Languages at the Heart of Our Programs

Teaching French

French is the language of instruction and communication within the school. Our educational system allows our students to develop a unique connection with the French language, largely through pedagogical, educational, and cultural projects, such as cultural and themed events, personalized classroom projects, web radio, public speaking contests, and other activities.

Not knowing French is not a barrier to enrolling in the most advanced grades at our school. We have a special program, called French as a Foreign Language (FLE), designed to help students gradually acquire the French language skills necessary to successfully follow the French curriculum and integrate effectively and confidently into school life.

Teaching Spanish

Spanish is the country's official language, and the subjects covered in the Chilean curriculum are taught in Spanish. All of our students learn to speak Spanish, whether they are Chilean or foreign.

English Language Instruction

English language learning begins in preschool (PS) through a playful immersion in the language and continues throughout the student's entire school career, up to the final year of high school.

Throughout their entire school career, students take various courses in English (Emile). At the end of the basic cycle (CM2) and in 2nd year of middle school, our students can earn Cambridge certifications. In addition, students can take the “Euro” track in English and ultimately prepare for the French International Baccalaureate (BFI) in both French and English.

  • Cambridge Certification: Certifies the student's English language proficiency. It is internationally recognized and valid for the long term.
  • EMILE: The EMILE program (Teaching a Subject Through the Integration of a Foreign Language) involves teaching a subject (history and geography, science, physical education) in a third language—in this case, English—which reinforces language proficiency.
  • European Section in English: The European Section is designed for motivated students with a strong command of English. In this section, students take history and geography classes in English, which allows them to develop their ability to reflect and exchange ideas while becoming familiar with the culture of the country in question. At the end of this program, students can earn the “English European Section” distinction on their high school diploma (BAC).
  • BFI: The International French Baccalaureate (BFI) is a prestigious branch of the French educational system and is designed for students who are fluent in English. The curriculum required to earn the BFI serves as an ideal springboard for subsequent admission to the grandes écoles and the top universities in France, the United States, and other English-speaking countries.
