The initiative, launched by the Alliance Française Student Council, led to the creation of four new “Families First” libraries, which will benefit students at schools in San Ramón, Conchalí, La Pintana, and Renca.
A charity campaign organized by the Alliance Française Student Council raised more than 350 children’s books, which were donated to the Familias Primero Foundation to create four new Familias Primero Libraries in schools where the organization carries out its programs.
The initiative was launched by the students themselves, who reached out to their classmates, families, and the educational community to collect high-quality books. Thanks to this effort, it was possible to create new book collections that will reach hundreds of children today, strengthening the reading spaces at their schools.
The libraries will benefit the following schools: Domingo Savio School in San Ramón; Pedro Aguirre Cerda School in Conchalí; Alto Gabriela School in La Pintana; and Montserrat Robert de García School in Renca.
"We are thrilled that the students themselves are driving initiatives like this. Each book represents an opportunity to spark the imagination, strengthen learning, and foster a love of reading from an early age. When an educational community comes together to share books, it is expanding opportunities for many other children," said Anne Traub, executive director of the Familias Primero Foundation.
The books were presented in the presence of representatives from the Familias Primero Foundation, the Alliance Française, and local officials, who highlighted the value of this collaborative effort in promoting reading and creating new learning opportunities.
“We are deeply grateful for this donation to our school; it is a collection that will undoubtedly enhance our children’s learning,” says Karina Aguayo, coordinator of the elementary division at Domingo Savio School.
The Familias Primero Foundation is Chile’s largest network of parenting and early childhood mentoring programs. Through its programs, it supports families and educational institutions from Tarapacá to Magallanes, strengthening the role of mothers, fathers, and caregivers as primary educators and promoting learning from an early age. The creation of the Familias Primero Libraries is part of a charitable initiative that seeks to bring quality books to children and educational communities throughout Chile. In recent months, this idea has been replicated in various ways, from campaigns led by student councils—such as the one at the Alliance Française—to individuals who have replaced birthday or wedding gifts with children’s books. Thanks to these initiatives, more than 5,000 books have already been collected, which have made it possible to continue strengthening “Families First” Libraries in educational institutions where the foundation carries out its programs.
