Art and Memory: Our Students Explore the Spanish Civil War

When History and Poetry Give Voice to Memory

How can we explore history through literature and give a voice to those who lived through it?

As part of the “Art and Power” theme, our 1C2 and TC1 students explored the Spanish Civil War and its consequences through two podcast projects.

The students in Class 1C2 stepped into the shoes of real and fictional characters linked to the history of the Winnipeg, known as the “Ship of Hope,” which enabled nearly 2,000 Spanish refugees to reach Chile thanks to the efforts of the poet Pablo Neruda.

For their part, the TC1 students conducted literary analyses of Miguel Hernández’s poem “Nanas de la cebolla,” a moving lullaby dedicated to his son that reflects the suffering and hardships experienced during the war.

Through these productions, our students combined historical research, literary analysis, creativity, and oral expression, bringing to life the stories and emotions of an era that left its mark on generations.

🎧 We invite you to listen to their podcasts and discover history through the voices of our students!
